========================== abiGRAPHICS Greeting Cards ========================== Thank you for purchasing an abiGRAPHICS Greeting Card you can print from your computer. You have purchased the rights to print as many copies as you wish of these original designs for your own personal use. I created many of the designs for my family's Christmas card and have been told repeatedly that I should publish and sell them. I'm a designer, not a publisher; so I came up with the idea to sell the files for others to publish like I did - right off my home computer printer. This design is 1 of 3 sizes of cards, all set up for printing on a US Letter-size page (8-1/2 by 11 inches). These instructions explain how to print to this size page and get the best results. You can adjust the printing however you choose to fit your own needs. This keeps the designs affordable. Some inside panels have a text field centered below the inside greeting (if any) in which you can optionally type your name with a closing greeting. This will print in black using the Times New Roman font or whatever your computer defaults to if that font is not found. The field is not readily visible in Adobe Reader - indeed, in older versions of Acrobat Reader, the field may not even be editable. Move your mouse pointer over the area below the inside message until it changes to a text cursor, then click and begin typing. You will not be able to save what you type with the PDF file; you must enter it each time you print. (Hint: Copy the text and paste it in Notepad to save it. You can then copy from Notepad and paste back into the text field when you open the card again in Adobe Reader.) There is a variety of paper styles and envelopes (in the sizes below) available at most office supply stores, full-service printers, and stationers (however few of these remain). Take a printout on white paper with you when you go shopping for paper to find a combination you like. ------------------ Money-Saving Hint: Don't be concerned about using an envelope exactly like the paper you choose; an envelope that is white or a complementary shade to the paper inside will be just as nice a presentation to the recipient. White No. 10 business envelopes are widely available and the least expensive style. ----------------------------- Why is the image upside down? The card image may be inverted so that all of it will print within typical printer margins. You can Rotate the page from the View menu of Adobe Reader, which may affect how the page prints. ------ BONUS! As a bonus, the archive file may include a JPEG image that is suitable for use as a Windows Desktop background. Save this to your hard drive, then from Control Panel > Display > Desktop > Browse... locate and select the image file, select Open; set Position = Stretch; then OK to save. ------------ How to Print It is recommended that you print a draft quality proof on plain paper to verify the results first, before using up color ink and high quality paper. You will need installed on your computer Adobe Reader, a free application that can be downloaded from www.adobe.com, or another application capable of printing PDF (Portable Document Format) files. You will also need a printer capable of printing the quality you expect on the paper you choose. From the File menu of Adobe Reader, select Print. In the Adobe Reader ver. 7.0 Print dialog (other versions may vary): * Print in color to US Letter-size paper. * Set up the printer to print in Landscape (wide) or Portrait (tall) as the page appears in Adobe Reader: with the Print dialog closed, from the View menu select Fit in Window. If the page width is greater than its height, select Landscape; otherwise select Portrait. * For test prints: Set up the printer to print in Draft quality (and Black ink only if you want to save color ink). For final prints: Set up the printer to print in Best quality and Color. * Do not select Auto-Rotate and Center Pages option. * Do not select Print Comments option (to prevent the note from printing). * Do not select Shrink Oversized Pages to Printer Size unless the right margin of your printer cuts off the design. ------------------------------------------------- What if the image is cut off on the printed page? There is no way to assure that the layout of the design will fit the margins of every printer. Try printing with the Adobe Reader option Shrink Oversized Pages to Printer Size selected; or see if the printer dialog has a similar option, such as Fit to Printer Margins. This may affect how the image is aligned on the page: if it appears too off-centered, you may try altering the fold and or trimming the paper slightly to make the adjustment. ---------------- Half Letter (HL) Prints to a letter-size page (one side or two sides if an inside page is included) and folds in half. Envelopes: 5-3/4 by 8-3/4 inches ----------------- Third Letter (TL) Prints to a letter-size page (one side) and folds in thirds with the lower third of the page as the front of the card and the upper third as the inside. You can secure the inside panel to the middle panel with two-sided tape or a glue stick (be sure it doesn't wrinkle the paper) for a more card-like feel, or leave it unglued. Envelopes: No. 10 business size (4-1/8 by 9-1/2 inches), least expensive option ------------------- Quarter Letter (QL) Prints to a letter-size page (one side) and folds in fourths. It is usually not necessary to secure the folds of a page folded in fourths. The QL size may also be printed 2-up using the flip-and-turn method (so the bottom edge of one side is matched to the top edge of the reverse side), then cut in half for 2 cards from one page. A sturdier weight of paper (if your printer can handle it) is recommended for this method. Envelopes: Invitation size, No. 5-1/2 Baronial (4-3/8 by 5-3/4 inches) ==================================== A Reminder About What You Purchased: Like software, you purchased a license to print the greeting card design for your personal, noncommercial use without any other limitations. Please don't let others use it without their purchasing a license from me for themselves. (It's intentionally not that expensive.) Please do not use printed copies without the copyright notice included. If you want to print it for commercial use, or for some other purpose than is covered here, please contact me first. Thank you.
